Top Amateur Handler, Changes for this season

Changes to this season’s AFTCA’s Top Handler’s Challenge for the Blue Award

The Top Handler Award Committee has voted to implement 4 changes to the Award to keep it on track with its primary objectives.  Those four changes that are affective immediately are:

Starting in the 2021-2022 season 30 Minute Amateur Derby Stake placement points, hosted by Member Clubs, will be included in the Top Amateur Handler award calculations.

To bring this award in line with other Awarded Seasons the Top Handler Award season will officially begin with trials that start on or after May 1st each year and end the season with trials that start on or before April 30th each year. (For only this 2021-2022 season the Month of May will not be included in the calculations as May was included in the 2020-2021 season. )

For points to be awarded The Essential Data Forms should be received by the AFTCA office no later than 30 days after the conclusion of the event except for late April trials which are required to be received by the AFTCA office on or before May 15th each year. Essential Data Forms received later than 45 days after the conclusion of the event or later than May 15th will not be counted.

In order to have Top Handler points awarded, the handler’s dog in the stake must be solely owned by the competing amateur handler or an immediate family member or jointly owned by the amateur handler and immediate amateur family member. (this condition is unique to only the Top Handler Award)
