AFTCA President Jim Crouse’s Comments

With the field trial season approaching full swing, a review of some important procedures is appropriate as well as a few reminders.

After twenty-one plus years of service, Ms. Linda Hunt retired about two years ago. Believe it or not, she is still getting trial results and other AFTCA inquiries.

Ms. Piper Huffman of Michigan City, Mississippi was chosen as the new secretary a little over two years ago. All AFTCA inquiries, trial results and the like should be addressed to her at:

2873 Whippoorwill Road, Michigan City, MS. 38647
Phone: 1-662-223-0126

Club dues for the 2013 year are still coming in as well as trial results from last spring. Please be reminded that if your club is in arrears, this may be corrected by sending the $100.00 fee promptly to Ms. Huffman. 2014 dues statements will be mailed December 1, 2013. Getting dues paid promptly frees time for the secretary to work on other matters, keeps club numbers accurate, and helps regions maintain their trustee numbers. Please take care of this issue in a timely fashion.

Essential Data forms should be submitted promptly after the conclusion of trial, preferably within two weeks. Entities requiring this information with contact information are as follows:

Amateur Field Trial Clubs of America
Piper Huffman, Sec.
2873 Whippoorwill Road, Michigan City, MS. 38647

Data may also be submitted electronically on the new aftca.org website. The website is easy to use, however, you must join, have an e-mail address and an assigned password. All these preliminaries can be accomplished on the website by following the prompts. Should you encounter difficulties, Ms. Huffman will readily assist you. Should your club run an invitational points trial for either or both shooting dogs and all-age dogs, please be sure to include that information on the essential data form in some fashion.

I would strongly encourage the use of electronic data submission to Ms. Huffman. This means of submission will expedite the tally of points trials, save you a stamp and generally save time on both ends.

Should your club run a Purina Amateur Points trial for Shooting Dogs, please send essential data forms to:
Mr. Mike Husenits
P.O. Box 53
West Lebanon, PA 15783
Phone: 1-412-289-01198

All-Age information should be forwarded to:
Ms. Barbel Fetkoter
3995 Arcanum Lane
Suffolk, VA. 23434
Phone: 1-757-650-8495
Fax: 1-757-923-9356

You may also contact:
Dr. Aubrey Morgan

Further details about the Amateur Purina Awards can be found in the August 17, 2013 issue of The American Field pages 21 and 23 respectfully.

The American Field published weekly both online and hard copy, uses essential data forms to maintain records on trials, provide reports, and maintain production records on registered dogs. Again, prompt submission of EDF is desirable.

Points for the Amateur Invitationals and Purina Amateur Awards are updated throughout the season. For those updates to be accurate, it is essential that trial data be reported promptly, completely, and accurately to the respective entities. Club secretaries have a hard job. Having been one for over twenty years, I speak from experience. It makes everything so much easier if competitors have information readily available after placing a dog, as least do not delay in getting that information to the host club’s secretary. Though this job is tough, those who keep up with points on a broader scale, namely Ms. Huffman, Mr. Husenits, Ms. Fetkoter and Dr. Morgan, are charged with a great responsibility. The American Field prefers to report trials in a timely fashion as well. Please be prompt, accurate and efficient in reporting the results of your trial!

Again, wishing you a happy, safe and successful season of field trialing!
