| National Amateur Invitational Championship
The concept of an "Invitational" stake is probably the fairest, most perfect test in bird dog competition today. For this stake the 12 top point total dogs from qualified all age stakes are invited to compete. All twelve dogs are drawn to run the first day for one hour. All are slated to run an hour the second day but with different courses, times of day and bracemates. The third day the finalists are chosen at the judges discretion. They are required to run at least an hour to place, however, the judges have full control past this point. Dogs are judged on the total three day performance. It is an honor just to earn a breath in this stake, but, to be the "best of the best" is indeed a thrill. This stake, since becoming a titular stake, has enjoyed a permanent home at the Ames Plantation near Grand Junction, TN. |
